1 in 4 parents who drink alcohol on special occasions are not likely to plan how much they drink or whether they’ll be able to take care of their child the next day. 3 in 10 parents know of an adult who may have caused an unsafe situation for their child due to drinking alcohol on a special occasion. 1 in 12 parents admitted to a prior situation where they may have been too impaired from alcohol to take care of their parenting responsibilities.

33% of adults in the U.S. have heard of powdered alcohol. Over 80% of adults believe powdered alcohol will increase the use of alcohol by underage youth. 60% of adults in the U.S. favor bans on the sale of powdered alcohol.

Few parents believe their own teens are drinking alcohol (10%) or using marijuana (5%). Parents’ perceptions fall below teens’ own reported use (52% for alcohol; 28% for marijuana). Many parents of teens overestimate marijuana and alcohol use by teens nationally.

Over one-half of adults believe alcopops promote underage drinking. Three-quarters of adults say underage drinking is a problem in their communities. 9 in 10 adults support alcohol warning labels for alcopops. 4 in 5 adults support banning alcopop ads from youth websites and magazines.
