In case of emergency: What's the plan at your child's daycare or preschool?

You are here

October 14, 2015

Emergencies can happen at any time, including the daytime hours when many parents are at work and their young children are at a preschool or child care center. Young children are especially vulnerable, so child care centers and preschool centers must be prepared for all emergency situations – from severe weather that might cause a power outage or delayed pickup to violent situations requiring lockdown.

Do parents of young children in preschool and child care centers know the emergency plans at their children’s center? How easy-to-find are those plans in case an emergency did occur?

We asked parents of young children across the U.S. about the emergency plans at their children’s preschools and child care centers. The results of this new National Poll on Children’s Health will be released next week. Sign up for our email list to make sure you get the report as soon as it’s available.
